Yesterday was ANZAC Day here in York. Like many Australian rural towns York held a parade and then a service at the war memorial. As a migrant to Australia it is hard for me to really comprehend what ANZAC Day really means, if I were to take a stab at defining it would be:
“a day of national mourning coupled with enormous national pride and the closest thing to religious experience for most Australians“
